Sunday Rimfire at SUPS
« on: August 25, 2015, 11:24:12 AM »
For anyone looking for a precision oriented rimfire match we hold one most Sundays at the Southern Utah Practical Shooters range near St. George. Usually a 0930 registration with first shots at 1000. You can find information on the match on our Facebook page. The MD is currently on vacation so I believe our next match is the first Sunday in September.

The matches are interesting with an emphasis on accuracy. Small targets and time limits will challenge you even at the 25 yard range we shoot them. 4 stages are the norm and I believe the cost is $5.00 per shooter or $10.00 for a family.

We shoot a lot of the NRA 25 yard (meter) targets along with small steel. It's a run what you brung match with classes for everything from bolt/irons to accurized semis. I shoot a Ruger M77 bolt with a Vortex 2-7 and find it a very good practice session for the larger stuff. Positions range from standing offhand to prone and everything in between including some props. Bipods and cans are welcome. You can shoot .22, .22 mag and .17. We even have a limited amount of .22 ammo for sale to competitors only. Mostly so you can shoot and not have it cost you ammo from your precious supply. Generally matches are 50 rounds max.

I started my 9 year old grandson shooting this summer and as soon as he was able we shot this match together. We ended up doing 4 of them and if you've never shot a .22 match with your child or grandchild all I can say is try it. Best time I've ever had shooting. I bought him a Savage Rascal and he ran it like a champ, winning Junior Division twice. He started with irons but ended up with a Simmons 4x. Yeah, the bug bit him bad and he's got his Winter practice plan ready and is looking forward to next Summer.

Whether you're looking for a match to hone your centerfire long range skills or something fun for the family I think you'll like what we do. Come on out and shoot with us sometime.

We've even been known to occasionally run a stage out to the 200 yards. Just for giggles you understand!

That's pretty awesome @Cpted Six .  This is very similar to the .22LR Marksmen Challenge that is held in Springville.  Have you check out that group?  It's run by Rodney Downs.  Here's a video of me choking on the matchstick stage.
